- Know the steps to BLS, CPR, and AED usage
- Understand how to attend to all age groups
Most of the time, infants need CPR due to cardiac arrest that has come on because of breathing difficulties. Here are some reasons why infant CPR is crucial —
- The most common cause of cardiac arrest in infants is respiratory failure (from a baby choking).
- In 2018, over 21,000 infants died. SIDS and suffocation are the 4th and 5th leading causes of infant mortality.
- 7,000+ children suffer every year from cardiac arrest.
Other problems that could require CPR are smoke inhalation, head trauma, near-drowning, electrical shock, and poison ingestion. We hope you never are required to use CPR skills on an infant or small child. But our team is here to help you get the proper CPR training so you can appropriately work through BLS, CPR, and AED skills, no matter the age or situation.
What is CPR?
CPR or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation is a medical response that incorporates chest or finger compressions and rescue breathing to help restore regular breathing or a heartbeat in an infant, child, or an adult. CPR provides blood to organs, which is vital to keep a person alive until medical help arrives! Note: Only perform CPR on infants who are not breathing independently or are unconscious/unresponsive.Â
What to Expect in Your CPR Classes
When you leave your American Heart Association CPR certification class, you will satisfy all OSHA requirements and be sure to perform this life-saving intervention. This procedure aims to restore independent breathing until the emergency response arrives to give further life support.
